SLEEP STYLE GUIDE

Everyone has their preferred style of sleep. Some people prefer to lay on their backs and others on their sides. Some people feel comfortable in any position. Your style of sleeping can have an impact on the type of mattresses that you feel the most comfortable sleeping on. Which one is the best for your needs? In this article, you will learn about the different sleep styles and which mattress types will be best for each.

Back Sleepers

For the most part, sleeping on your back is considered to be the healthiest position to sleep in. The exception is if you suffer from a condition like sleep apnea. This position allows you to keep your spine in proper alignment, as it keeps you in a neutral position. The great thing about back sleepers is that they get the best flexibility as far as their mattress options. You generally want something more firm as a back sleeper to keep your body aligned. Some options include latex, hybrid, memory foam, and innerspring.

Side Sleeper

Side sleepers need mattresses that are capable of cradling their every curve to get the best sleep possible. If you lay on your side without this support, you will suffer from numbness, localized redness, and soreness. This means that you need something that offers nice support but with a thick comfort layer, like a pillow top mattress, latex foam, or memory foam.

Stomach Sleeper

This may seem like an uncomfortable choice for many, especially since this requires you to sleep with your head in a way that can cause a strain in your neck. With this type of sleeper, it is important to find the best way to minimize the strain on your body. Something too soft will cause you to sink down, putting unnecessary strain on your back. You want something that is a medium-firm rather than something too firm though. In this case, you might find the best results with a memory foam mattress or a latex mattress.

Combination Sleeper

Some people like to toss and turn when they sleep. You can first default to what is known as your “deepest sleeping position”, meaning that you make a decision based on the position you sleep the most in. Since mattresses like memory foam or latex are great for multiple positions, this can be a great choice for you.

Couples

One of the most complicated things is to purchase a mattress for couples. In these cases, you and your partner should choose a happy compromise or find something that can work for both people. Again, one of the more flexible options such as a memory foam mattress. In these cases, it can be a better idea for you to go and try out a mattress with your partner and find something that works for the both of you. This is especially important for you to try it out so that you can feel the motion transfer, looking for something that causes the least amount of disruption for the other person. Make sure to get a mattress that gives both partners enough space and fits in your bedroom!
